PPE, or Personal Protective Equipment, has long been used by those in hazardous jobs and a few key industry sectors. Over the past few weeks, with the coronavirus crisis, the importance of PPE has become much more widely recognized, but the UK Health & Safety Regulations on PPE have actually been around for nearly 30 years. They are called The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended).
Remember, PPE should always be a last resort when risks can’t be controlled in any other way, and should never be a substitute for good practice, good hygiene and social distancing.
